Yesterday we saw Inception at the IMAX. After my initial disappointment of learning that it wasn't in 3D (I don't know why I assumed all IMAX movies were in 3D.....) I settled down to view, what I thought would be, a high action suspense flick.  It turned out to be so much more.  I will buy this for DVD to watch it several times in order to fully figure it out.  I actually dreamed about it last night.  Possibly the best movie I will see this year.  We sat a little close to the screen so the action and sound was a little over-whelming at times, but it was still way worth the $14 per person admission.  If you haven't seen it yet and plan to - just make sure you are alert because, in order to understand what's going on, you have to pay close attention throughout.

After the movie we made out appointment at the Apple store.  My Touch was having headphone jack issues.  They gave me a new one.  Turns out it has the old iPod operating system on it.  I haven't decided if I want to go ahead and update to the newer version since I was having so much trouble with errors on the new version I had on my old touch.  Maybe I'll just enjoy the old version for a while first.

We ate a late lunch at a little "semi fast food" chain restaurant called Pei Wei.  We were actually impressed.  The food and atmosphere was good, and the portions very large - we took home leftovers.  I had the Orange Peel Chicken, and Marcel had the Mango Chicken. Bonus - Edamame on the appetizer menu and Fortune Cookies after.

* My Mom & Niece will be leaving on Wednesday, so this is my last weekend with them.  It really was nice having them here.  I was also glad I could share my "paradise" with them (I'm kind of proud of my life....humble as it is) :-)

Business seems to be picking up a little at the restaurant. I hope it continues in spite of all the negativity on the gulf coast.  The oil spill hasn't affected us here in Texas physically, but it sure has emotionally.

*  I'm considering the possiblity of going back to school once I move to Corpus (while working too of course).  I think I might like to get into the Nursing program at Texas A&M Corpus Christi or Delmar College (though since I've been out of school for almost 30 years - I may need to do a semester or two of pre-requisite work).  Nursing is what I was on track to pursue decades ago when my life veered in another direction (no regrets).  I think a nursing job will pay adequately, offer decent benefits, jobs are plentiful, and it would fall under my idea of "right livlihood" which is very important to me.  As a bonus - I could help myself and family with my knowledge/skills.  Both colleges offer an E-Learning program which I might consider while working part-time in a nursing home or care facility to keep it relevent.   I'll have to see what our financial situation is like etc., but I feel good about the idea.

Blackberries are done.  It was a good harvest this year.  This weekend I will get in there and get everything pruned back.  It's sad that this will be my last Blackberry harvest for awhile.  Whomever rents the house will be enjoying it next year.

Naegelin's Bakery is supposed to be the oldest bakery in Texas.  It's on Seguin Avenue right smack in the center of town.

When I first visited it I was a little disappointed.  It seems to be advertised as a tourist spot, but that is where the marketing ends.  There are no tourist trappings inside.  It's quite run down (in a not-so-quaint way) and there are no souvenirs or nick-nacks for sale.

They also have no merchandising skills whatsoever.  Menu signage consists of a dry erase board, no logo or branding of bags/boxes, and they do things like put a sheet pan (straight out of the oven) of brownies in the display case and cut portions as needed from it (leaving crumbs and broken chunks right there in customer's view)

I go back regularly though because - they are damn good bakers!  Bread, cookies, brownies, pastries - it's all good.  Homestyle kind of good..... you know, the kind of stuff that came out of your grandmother's oven.  The only thing I've eaten from there I didn't care for was the sweet pretzels (which - ironically is really the only "touristy" thing they make).

If I was to ever get back into the food industry, it would be the bakery business.  I am reminded I still have the "bug" every time I step into Naegelin's and feel the overwhelming urge to put in track lighting, offer free samples, and stamp their logo on every bag/box they send out.
