* My Mom & Niece will be leaving on Wednesday, so this is my last weekend with them.  It really was nice having them here.  I was also glad I could share my "paradise" with them (I'm kind of proud of my life....humble as it is) :-)

Business seems to be picking up a little at the restaurant. I hope it continues in spite of all the negativity on the gulf coast.  The oil spill hasn't affected us here in Texas physically, but it sure has emotionally.

*  I'm considering the possiblity of going back to school once I move to Corpus (while working too of course).  I think I might like to get into the Nursing program at Texas A&M Corpus Christi or Delmar College (though since I've been out of school for almost 30 years - I may need to do a semester or two of pre-requisite work).  Nursing is what I was on track to pursue decades ago when my life veered in another direction (no regrets).  I think a nursing job will pay adequately, offer decent benefits, jobs are plentiful, and it would fall under my idea of "right livlihood" which is very important to me.  As a bonus - I could help myself and family with my knowledge/skills.  Both colleges offer an E-Learning program which I might consider while working part-time in a nursing home or care facility to keep it relevent.   I'll have to see what our financial situation is like etc., but I feel good about the idea.

Blackberries are done.  It was a good harvest this year.  This weekend I will get in there and get everything pruned back.  It's sad that this will be my last Blackberry harvest for awhile.  Whomever rents the house will be enjoying it next year.

* Peppers are starting to produce.  Here is a picture of a Bell I harvested yesterday.  It weighed 12 ounces.  How it looks in my hand is how I picked it off the plant.  I don't wait for Bells to turn red because it usually gets sunburned before that could happen.

* The cucumbers are climbing pretty good by now.  They aren't doing as well as I hoped, but I'm going to wait and see.  This is a new Japanese variety - so it might be partly due to that.  Might go back to the old variety next year.

* Tomatoes are producing like crazy.  I'm harvesting about a quart of cherry tomatoes a day.  I have 444's as well but they aren't nearly as prolific. I'm letting them grow wild this year with no staking (even though I put in stakes in the beginning) and no pruning.  This coming Wednesday I'll be making fresh salsa since all the ingredients are harvestable (onions, tomatoes, chilis).

* Last years cucumbers volunteered to grow in my tomato patch.  Not sure how the seeds found there way there since the cucumbers grew a whole patch over last year.  I'm going to leave them alone even though I have others growing elsewhere.  Never turn down a plant trying to make you food I say.

* Now that the blackberries are done producing - time to prune back the canes so the new canes will receive all the water and nutrition for next years crop.  This truly is hazardous duty - even with gloves.

* I have two volunteer blackberries that rooted themselves.  This makes me smile.  I am going to transplant them to buckets and maybe find them a home.   Otherwise the mower will get them.

* Some people throw their change on the kitchen table when they come in the door.......

Blackberry Love  These are the two I had in buckets near the garden shed.  They were "extras" but because of the sun in that area - they are doing better than the others in the main bed.  The birds are getting their share, but I don't mind so much.

* ROBERT DOWNEY JR. -  I saw him on Letterman last night.  I'm so glad he's overcome his issues.  I was really rooting for him when he was dealing with his drug addiction.  Hopefully someday I'll be able to say the same thing about Brittany.

AMERICAN IDOL - I predict the boys will all get through.  One of the girls will not.  My guess is Syesha Mercado.

CHICKENS 7 WEEKS OLD - They don't look like chicks anymore - and are starting not to act like chicks.  They are roosting now and are much more assertive.  The rooster is still a little wimpy - but I think he's going to be okay.

* MY COUSIN MELANIE - Came to visit me.  She is not like I expected (I mean that in a good way).  We have a lot in common.  We got to talk about family, organic food, and spirituality (we both remember the Christian Science Statement of Being which was so cool - our grandmother was Christian Scientist).

I AM (PROBABLY) GETTING INTERNET - My neighbor came by to check if I can get his wireless.  Looks good.  I'll be paying him $15 a month.  I hope it works out. We won't know until I get a wireless card (which is on order).  I should get the card Friday and he will install it for me over the weekend.  To offset the cost I'm going to end my Blockbuster Total Access subscription (which is about $13 a month).  I watch too much TV anyway.

 *  My cousin canceled - again.  She mentioned Tuesday - we'll see :-)

*  I ate several ripe delicious blackberries from my vines this weekend.  I took pictures, but I forgot to bring my camera to work so I can upload.

*  My chickens now want to roost (previously they were happy to sleep in the bedding of the coop).  Last night it was a disaster - I designed the roosts all wrong.  Tomorrow I'm off - and I will re-design into something they can use.

*  I don't have any more vacation days until October.  I don't know how I'm going to make it that long.

*  I have a new friend Wanda who lives a couple properties down.  She's my mom's age, but it's cool to hang out with her.

*  I think I'm getting Carpal Tunnel in my wrist (or Arthritis).  Need to get the company doc to see if I can get a brace.  Or I might to to my local doc for advice.  Want to nip it in the bud.

Finally pictures of the garden.  I took these weeks ago, but it took a week to get the CD made from the printer (long story).  Can't wait until my digital camera comes back from the shop.

I'm cutting this for space.  Click on link to see entire post.
