Kitchen Pantry

I am back to clearing my cupboards - I think it's been about a year since the last time.

I want to use up all my boxes and cans of stuff in the cupboards and stuff I've frozen in the big freezer.

Once I get the extras out - I hope I can be more frugal (and health minded) when purchasing new foodstuff.

I'm especially interested in limiting my purchases of anything processed.  I'm going to try and do as much as I can from scratch.

Food Purchasing

I'd like to try and pull together a food purchasing club from people at my work and in my neighborhood who are like-minded.  I'm especially interested in the bulk purchase of dried beans, grains, lentils.  The price per pound lately has shot up for these items, and I'm convinced that a better deal can be had.  Other items folks may be interested in going together to purchase would be toilet paper, cleaning supplies, and possibly meat.

I downloaded the iPhone App "HomeBudget" last week and spent quite a few hours logging in all my financial data since January 1st.  Feeling pretty accomplished at the moment.  Now - I just need to keep it up (posting debits/credits etc.).  This software is really nifty - it keeps track of expenses, reminds you of bills due, and has a budget function.  I mostly want to keep track of what I'm spending my money on - and get motivation to spend wisely.  Next year I may actually "BUDGET".  It was $4.99.

I also opened an account at Smartpiggy.com.  I set a savings goal of $500.00 to purchase a bee hive kit and a nuc of bees from Bee Weaver next year.  I wanted to do it this year, but I committed to not using my credit card for any non-emergency purchases from no on.  I may do a fundraiser later in the year if I'm not able to set aside enough funds from working overtime.

I am also changing my home owners insurance company to one that gives me the exact same coverage for about $100 less a year :-)

Free App for iPhone (& Touch) Penny Saved

This is an app that simply tracks spending; however, there is the added feature that, when you log in what you spent, it needs to go in either the Want or the Need column.  -  at the end of the time period you get to see how much money you spent that you didn't need to (theoretically)

I will be working on a budget soon.  Once I figure out what I'm doing with it - I'll choose an Ipod App to help me track it.
