Monday I went to the San Antonio Botanical Gardens with Marcel, my friend Bea, and my niece Jerrica.  Long day, and we got a little too much sun - but a good time was had by all.  Marcel and I went to the Gardens together before when we were dating, but Bea and Jerrrica had never been before.

* Today my "must do no matter what" goal was to get my back porch cleaned up. The chickens like to hang out there part of the day, and they've made (more of) a mess of it.  I rigged a skirt to put around it from extra fabric - it looks ghetto, but it'll keep it somewhat clean.  I scrubbed the concrete and got all the dirt off, but it still looks not so good (stains etc.).

*  I got a message from my singles site from someone who wants to live out in the country - somewhere he can walk out his back porch naked and shoot doves without neighbors around to protest.  He wanted to know if I hunted doves, and what I did for kicks if I didn't drink.  Several days later he wrote again and wondered why I didn't reply.

* Bea and I ended up going to Market Square instead of Riverwalk last night.  Extremely last minute decision "hey, quick....turn here!!"  We walked the square and enjoyed the tourist shops with their colorful Mexican souveineers.  We got our name on the list to eat and Mi Tierra Cafe which was excellent in every way.  We waited over 30 minutes for a table, but we bought bakery goods while we hung out.  It was a nice night out.

The pinatas and Mexican versions of Tibetan prayer flags that hang from the ceiling in the entry way of Mi Tierra Cafe.

This was not our waiter.  It was some poor employee Bea drug into the picture; he was a good sport.

I'm facinated with Day of the Dead stuff.  These ladies were delightfully chilling

For the first (and last)  time ever I participated in the 5am day after Thanksgiving sales.  I drug my friend with me and we hit Walmart (5am) and Target (6am).  I was amazed by how many people there were waiting in line at Target.

I hate that items get sold out within minutes of the sale starting.  That's BS.  They should offer rainchecks for at least 2 hours into the sale to make it fair.

The only item I was interested in getting was one of the digital cameras that were on sale.  The Sony at Walmart was sold out by the time I got there (at 5:15am 15 minutes after the sale started).  I'm pretty sure they used that item as a come on - they probably just got in 10.  I did get the other deal offered by Target, and it's a great camera even though I'm not thrilled by the brand (Kodak M853 for $89.00).  I also got the 1gb card for $10.00 and a DVD of Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory for $4.99.  These are all for my daughter.

That's pretty much it.

I was at Pennys, and I loved seeing this window treatment.  It is sheel panels with an overlay of ribbons/metal beads.  It's a middle eastern / harem look.  Love it.  Ribbon overlays were $40 per 42" panel - I think I can make it for about a third of that.  I'll post a materials list etc. if I decide to try and make it myself.

The mini-vacation went okay, if not as planned.  It rained most of it, so the garden work went out the window.

I did one task on Sierra's gown at least, but most of my time was spent on the quilt.

Monday Bea and I went shopping at the Forum.  World Market had soda from Waialua - I didn't even know Waialua had a soda company.....

I found the Spotted Dick, and like a couple of immature 12 year olds Bea and I couldn't stop laughing.  This is her with the can (I deleted the one of her licking her lips...).   I even forgot to put in in my cart (I was going to try it since it was something I'd never had before..... haha, jeez! - I'm still laughing about it - how sad that I'm so immature.

I dropped Bea off and stopped by Walmart to pick up a couple of grocery things (didn't check for Spotted Dick).  I did find some awesome organic Champagne grapes though - Yum. They are so tiny - almost like they came from liliputtin. Can't afford it, but I bought a package anyway.

Also......
* One tree trimmer came to give estimate for the two trees in question:  $900 plus tax.
*  I watched Hot Fuzz (not so hot)
*  Neighbor pretty much fixed my mower, and was able to mow the back area before the rains came.

Today Bea and I hit the road with "no particular place to go".  I had in my mind Busseys and a fabric store, but was open to all possibilities.

We started off by grabbing a soda at the corner station then headed south towards San Antonio.  I mentioned GardenRidge, but it was too early to get in there anyway (9am).  I decided to go ahead and look for a fabric store.  I'd forgotten to bring the maps to Joann's and Hancock Fabric (which I'd put on the table RIGHT NEXT TO the door) - but I'd remembered it was on San Pedro somewhere.  I thought San Pedro ran along 281 so that's where I went.  We got half way down and hadn't seen any street sign saying San Pedro, so we stopped into Starbucks to ask.  It was, indeed San Pedro, and lo and behold Joann's could be found just across the highway!.

Joann's wasn't open yet, so we checked out Walgreens while we waited.

Joann's had a 70% off sale on all summer decor items.  I got three smallish ceramic wind chimes, a novelty sign (Love Grows), and a carrot sign.  I'll post pics later.  They were also having a super sale on Simplicity Patterns, so I picked up four at $1.99 each!! (actually the sale ended the day before, but because the sign was still posted - the clerk let me have it at the sale price - yay).

By the time we were done at Joann's we were hungry, so I drove down San Pedro to Souper Salad.  We also stopped into Goodwill and Rooms To Go since they were right there.

Then.... we jumped on 281 south and went to the Quarry to Wholefoods.  I picked up a few groceries, and we headed home after grabbing a soda for the road.

Long day!  Next week we thought we might actually go to the Swap meet and maybe the Farmer's Market.

Here are pics of the patterns I got.....

#7655  I got this so I could have a simple pattern to make the skirts I like to wear.

#4050  I am so jazzed I got this for $1.99.  I don't know when I'll make it, but I definately want to do it with two contrasting fabrics.

# 3697 This is a great top!  I like how there are two bodice options.  I want to make Sierra a good blouse with this pattern.  I'm going to do it in black.  If she likes it I'll make her more - maybe even with contrasting fabrics if she'd like that (hard to tell with that kid..... if I did it with skull & crossbone fabric...she'd like that haha)

I got one more that I'll write about next time.
