This morning I brushed my teeth and washed my face.  Thirty minutes later I turned on the water to wash dishes - and a third of the water pressure.  When things like this happen I automatically think the worst (water main break).  I walked out to the "back 40" looking for any puddles above the ground - when I got to the water main shut off valve - I shut it off as a precaution.  While I was kneeling down there I got two fire ant bites on my legs.  I walked back and stopped at the chicken pen.  One of the hens had a bloody butt.  This is the same one I had to isolate when I first got them.  The others were taking turns picking at her butt.  Jeez!!  I'm sure they aren't all aggressive - but saw the blood (or smelled it) and thought "lunch!".  I caught her and put her in a carrier with food/water/bedding to deal with later because I was going to be late for work.

The chicken forum I post at says to put pick lotion on it (you get it at the feed store) - it's the same principle as the stuff you put on nails not to bite them (tastes awful).  I'll wash her up tonight and put it on her and turn her loose.  They say, as long as I keep applying it, they should leave her alone until it heals.

So anyway, I finally get out the door leaving me house waterless - - and I'm driving down the road and see the water company replacing a huge water main pipe. Guess that's why the pressure was down.  So, that's a relief anyway.

We used to get that all the time at my house in ATL. The water pipes were old and always breaking. I mean...always. Like every month! Seriously. It was so annoying. We'd have no water for like 24-48 hours while they patched the pipe only to come back out to patch it again a few weeks later. Gee...ever think of just replacing the pipe?!?!? >.<

I hate mornings like that. :( I hope your day got better.

Oh, and I hope the other chickens leave the poor girl alone already! Sheesh! Poor thing.

I don't suppose they'd listen, but the girls sound like they need a chicken manners lesson! :)

What a morning! Hopefully it improved?

Poor chicken. :[ Do you think because they pick on her that maybe something is wrong with her? Or she's just viewed as the weakest in the pecking order. {*LOL*} Oh dear! Bad pun! :/

Would it be that hard to tell everyone that they will be working on the water?

Jeez what a start to your day, I hope it got better.
I keep thinking of the over used joke my kid kept telling/harassing me with: "Guess what?"

Chicken Butt!

Haha - funny you mention that. I considered calling her "butt butt", but I opted for a more difnified "fanny" :-)

She's back in the main population now - seems to be doing okay.
