The divorce rate in the United States has fallen by 13 percent since 2000.
I wonder if part of that is that people can't afford to get married in the first place.... ;-)
The average credit card debt is under $5,000 for the first time since 2002.
Mine is just under this, and I'm actively chipping away at it.
Scientists have discovered that gorillas play tag.
This I would like to see.

Date: 2011-01-28 09:56 pm (UTC)I wonder if the divorce rate would drop because more and more people are waiting to get married (ie, not at age 21!), and I think that *might* make for more stable marriages. Just my thoughts.
And you mention people not being able to afford getting married - I think it's more expensive to get divorced! (depending on how the other half is behaving)
My recurring cc debt is down to $165 - which is left of what I own on the mower. Yippee! (but let's not consider student loans or car payments, ich)
I'd love to see gorillas play tag. My mom was a big fan of Gorillas in the Mist.

Date: 2011-01-28 10:12 pm (UTC)Sometimes they change their definition or limitations of what they call something (in this case it's DIVORCE) so that it makes the new stats appear to be going up or down when they might not be in reality.
I mean are they talking first-divorces or are they talking all divorces?
I'd love to see the stats broken down by race, religion, state, socio-economic status, number of years marriage lasted, first-time divorces vs. multi-divorces, etc.
I'd also like to know where they are getting their statistics from. Not all sources are equally trustworty.
I agree with you--I'd like to see gorillas playing tag.
:)

Date: 2011-01-29 09:38 am (UTC)In the depression here in the 1930s, people waited to get married an awful long time - eight years, in some cases.
I agree with the others on Reader's Digest, though :P

The Chicken Hotel created by 31-year-old David Roberts, from Boskenwyn, Helston, is almost just like any other hotel out there, with one big difference – instead of people, it offers accommodations for chicken. I know it sounds like a joke, but this place is for real, and apparently it’s also very successful.
