* The rain has me inside AGAIN....  argh!!  I did manage to get the mowing done and Roo's feet treated.  I massaged in a mixture of canola and orange oil hoping this would convince whatever it is that's irritating them to move on.  Here's a picture of us (doesn't he look thrilled?)

* For [personal profile] sahlah  (and anyone else interested)
These are the links to the two Zencast talks I felt deal with the monotony of life (at least partially).  You can listen directly from the site, or you can download to your Ipod from the sources listed on the main page (I use Itunes - you can just type in Zencast in the search bar and it will bring up all the talks.

Now - an Ekhart Tolle Q & A  September 11, 2005 - I listen to this over and over - he is awesome.

Just to be Alive is Enough - a talk by Gil Fronsdal of Audio Dharma August 19, 2007

* If this isn't a Red Flag that we've got a problem with caffeine in this country, I don't know what is.  They offer these shots of caffeine to add to your already caffeinated coffee along side sugars and creamers at my local convenience shop.

I love Eckhart's teaching. I also LOVE Adyashanti's! Here's a link to some free downloads... amazing guy. http://www.adyashanti.org/cafedharma/index.php?file=library_audio

We'll do an Intensive with him in Denver area in October. Was with him for 5 day silent retreat last Dec and it changes our lives!

Cute pic.. what's wrong with Roo's foot? Got tea tree? or neem?

[identity profile] eats-veggies.livejournal.com 2008-08-25 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
I would life my life to be unstructured enough to go on retreats and workshops when they are offered. Our vacation days are bidded on in December for the while following year. That is based on seniority (and, since I moved to a new division this year - I'm fairly low on the totem pole - bah!). :-) I really want to work towards a different job and/or my own business. Right now it can't be a priority though :-(

I will listen to those talks.

I think Roo has mites - though none of the other birds have any signs of irritation. I looked for my bottle of tea tree oil, and I can't remember where I put it. I treated their coop and yard with diatamacious (spelling) earth - so we'll see if I can get it under control without using any chemicals.

[identity profile] walksbeauty.livejournal.com 2008-08-26 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure I would know mites if I saw them.. how'd you know your boy had them? I do think the DE is a good thing.

[identity profile] eats-veggies.livejournal.com 2008-08-26 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
Honestly I'm not positive it's mites - I'm guessing.

You can see mites if you look close. I found them on my girls right by their vent area last month - you have to look really close to see them (yeah, I know - - I hope the neighbors didn't see me with a hens butt up against my face.....lol).

[identity profile] walksbeauty.livejournal.com 2008-08-26 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
hahahaha Then what'd you do for the girls?

Does it make them itch? Does Roo have owies from it? :-{ Poor babies... & you, too... We may have them and I don't even know.

Do you have one of those sprinking applicators for the DE? I remember reading we shouldn't use straw for the bedding since mites can live in it.. but we do use some straw.. uh oh...

[identity profile] eats-veggies.livejournal.com 2008-08-26 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
I dusted their butts with DE. I also dusted the coop and yard. I'm going to start doing a deep cleaning of the coop once a month using orange oil in the wash water. It's a small coop, so it's not a big deal.

I don't see them itch, but I imagine they do. Your girls may be controlling it themselves with their dust baths.

[identity profile] walksbeauty.livejournal.com 2008-08-26 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, they do love their dustbaths.. Does that help the mite situation? Now I'm nervous to look.. And why were you looking so close in the first place. :) tee hee that must be an interesting story..

What's UTC? 1:29 am?

That is such a fantastic photo of you & Roo.

[identity profile] eats-veggies.livejournal.com 2008-08-25 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you!

It's not easy getting him to cooperate and snap the pic at the same time! LoL

Seems to me someone, a mainstream comapny, has a caffeinated candy bar.

[identity profile] eats-veggies.livejournal.com 2008-08-25 01:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Snickers Charged. It has 60mg of caffeine - about the same as a small cup of coffee. It also has Taurine which seems to be found in a lot of energy drinks too.

Thanks! I appreciate the links and look forward to listening to them.

Roo is so handsome, hope his feet feel better soon.

Thanks for the Zencast info!

Check out AudioDharma too. They have talks on the site, and the podcast is awesome. http://www.audiodharma.org/

Hey, I'm going to be in SA on the 10th for a densist appt. at 1pm. Do you want to do something after?

[identity profile] madamealexis.livejournal.com 2008-08-25 02:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I would love to spend some time with you. So far my answer is yes. I am not totally sure because I need my partner to give me next month's schedule and he went out of town today and won't be back till the middle of the week.

If I can't make it I will let you know. Did you have any ideal what you want to do this time around?

I go to Versi this weekend. Do you want me to make the appointment for us on the 24th when I see Amanda? If so what would be a good time for you?

[identity profile] eats-veggies.livejournal.com 2008-08-25 06:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm off, so anytime - whatever your preference.

The Da Vinci exhibit ends the 7th, so that's out. We could still go to the Witte - or one of the other museums. As far as I know there aren't any new special exhibits going on, but there's plenty of see anyway.

Or.... we could go browse around at the Unlimited Thought Bookstore (http://www.unlimited-thought.com).

[identity profile] madamealexis.livejournal.com 2008-08-25 06:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I would love to check out the bookstore!

Would you want to go mid-morning or after lunch to Versi?

http://www.versi.com/

Please don't leave it up to me because you are the one coming from far away.

Aw, I love the picture of you and Roo!

jennholly here -

Have you considered scrubbing his feet with a toothbrush to get up under the scales?? I've had to do that. I do think that my hen had mites, but she just tends to have really dirty feet, too. She's also missing her middle toenails. I call her Butch. She likes the girls and keeps my rooster cowtowing.

I ordered an iPod finally, so I hope to be able to listen to these. You always find such good stuff.

[identity profile] eats-veggies.livejournal.com 2008-08-25 08:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Ahahaha - awesome! I need a girl like that in my flock! (Roo is such a bully).

I will try the toothbrush - he'll love that..... :-)

I also gave the chickens a bath with Dr. Bronner's tea tree oil soap. Grumpy chickens!

(I'm testing this OpenID system - maybe I don't have to post as annonymous!)

Do you have a blog now? If so, tell me where, and I'll see if I can view it on my feed.

[identity profile] lostpony.wordpress.com (from livejournal.com) 2008-08-25 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
it is at lostpony.wordpress.com . I recently had my computer die, and with it went my recipes! so, that's really the only thing on the blog.

[identity profile] kabuldur.livejournal.com 2008-08-26 01:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe Roo had the beginning of scales? Good owner, you, noticed and treated him very early!
