Sunday Sunday La La Lalalala

I probably won't be posting Monday - so here's my weekend wrap up early.

Saturday I went to a chicken show.  It was hot - temperature hot.  I saw a few people I knew, and it was interesting seeing all the bantams (mini chickens).  I'd never be into showing chickens, but it's entertaining to attend.

Here's an update on the Shade Garden.  I never could get the Astilbe to grow, but the mondo grass is hanging in there and the Hostas and Caladiums are holding their own.  I need to put something in the center now - it looks too plain.  I might do a bird feeder or bird bath.

I harvested Shallots, onions, garlic, and chard.

I made whole wheat sourdough biscuits (like I really need those calories!) :-)

and I started thinking about fixing the toilet.  I got it halfway taken apart - and then PFFFFFT!  I went and watched an episode of The Tudors on surfthechannel.com instead.

Forgot to say, one lot of chooks we had, I called the leader Intellichook, and the second in command, Computerchook. We didn't have a rooster at that time :) We got twenty chooks from a nearby chook farm. They were one year old and had plenty of laying years left in them. They just needed a little TLC.

I got that many chooks because I had five kids and a hubby to feed. They ahd a whole farm to run around on. I converted an old dairy into a house for them, safe from the dingoes at night.

What you describe is heaven. It was my dream to have a little farm and a big family. Didn't work out that way, but at least Ihave my chickens now I guess :-)

We didn't own the farm. It had been sold and was bought by the Endeavour Foundation (a charitable organisation that helped disabled people). One house had been sold off and they were starting another.

We lived in the old original farmhouse. We loved it and could have bought it for removal but decided to build new :)

Heh, the relationship didn't work out, and I ended up with six kids (and various assorted pets).

THAT relationship didn't work out either, but I loved my kids :) They're grown up now.

Why does that toilet repair kit remind me of Melitta products?

HAHA - that's true!

Would a rose survive there (2'nd pic)?

Did you put the toilet back together? Plumbing is so simple or it should be.

Probably not enough light. I have a canopy of trees in the front yard. There are some mini roses on the side of my house that belong to my neighbor, so I know the climate is okay for them.

No, didn't put it together. Thank goodness I have two bathrooms. I'll have to do it all in one sitting though because my water shutoff doesn't shut off all the way and it drips. I'll tackle it Wednesday on my day off.

Oh they make those repair kits seem so easy and I watched my Ex try to do one and it was a BITCH! Stupid thing. I hope you get it working soon.

I love your basket of goodies from the garden. Foood!

And I love your bikkies. They look so healthy!

You're a practical do-it-yourself lady. I have mucked around with cisterns before- a long time ago. They have probably changed by now, plus everything's plastic. Good luck with it.

I love that plant with the big leaves...whatever it is....How do you get it to grow there in your climate?

Chookies!!!

I went tot he urban dictionary to find out what bikkies meant :-)

Those are caladiums. They grow very well here provided they are in shade and watered often (they like high humidity/moisture). In winter they die back and come back the next year. I love them because they remind me of home.

Ooops! Sorry about that! I forgot some of you folks call them cookies :)

You must look after your Caladium very well. I love the colours in its leaves.

Where do you come from (if you don't mind me asking)?

Hen who lived at a McDonald's finally captured

[identity profile] madamealexis.livejournal.com 2008-06-10 02:55 pm (UTC)(link)
TEMECULA, Calif. -- In the end, the elusive chicken that took up residence outside a McDonald's just got too comfortable in its new home.

For four months customers tried unsuccessfully to catch the brown hen using bait or bare hands. Last week, the fast fowl was finally captured after it settled in for the night right on top of the drive-through window box.

A group of employees distracted the bird with bites of hamburger bun and nabbed it.

Restaurant manager Chona Cauley said the chicken's downfall was that it got a little bit too comfortable around the drive-through.

"Normally, the chicken sleeps in the bushes," Cauley said.

The bird won't end up on the menu. It has been sent to live as a pet with other chickens at the home of a restaurant worker.

Since the chicken arrived, customers often found themselves waiting to order their McNuggets while the bird blocked the drive-through lane.
