Goodnight Chickens

I caught the chickens heading into the coop at sundown.  This is a ritual that lasts about 20 minutes, so a video wouldn't have worked.  I love it when I can catch them in the act - usually I forget until they are already tucked inside.

Have you made nesting boxes for them to lay eggs in yet?

I converted a hose-winding contraption into a satellite nest box by gutting it (you can see it next to the coop in one of the pictures). I also plan to make two nest boxes that extend out from the coop. I need to get cracking on it since they'll be laying in a couple or three months.

I have a cat who is primarily indoors. She hung out with the chicks when they were in the house though - wasn't much interested in them. There are cats and dogs around me, but they haven't shown an interest in the chickens - and I have a plan if they ever do.... :-)

Yeah, I liked the one with their two butts sticking out the door, but it's slightly out of focus - so I can't blow it up and/or zoom in. Darn! Would have made a good usericon or wallpaper :-)

I love the 2 chicken butts squeezing through the door..! My Orpingtons have the fluffiest butts... so cute!

Ha! - cool.

I thought of getting Polish chickens, but they say they don't make good pets. They are very exotic looking though!
