*  I watched (back to back) In The Valley of Elah and Rendition (including the documentary in special features) Friday night .  I didn't sleep well that night.  I'm glad I watched though even though they made me completely miserable.

*  I voted on the way home from work Saturday.

* Cyber and I watched the Academy Awards last night.  Even she thought it was too long.

*  Ladybugs have completely taken over my garden.  I'm not kidding - if they weren't so cute, it would be creepy.  I'm not sure why either.  I had an aphid infestation on my radishes, but I harvested those and the remaining garden is reasonably bug free.

I think this one is suitable for wallpaper - it's beet greens, but see the little lady bug in the center? Ha!

Here they are having lunch on the radishes just before I harvested them last week. There were more than a dozen, but I couldn't fit them all in one shot

and finally another ladybug pic - this one on Fava Beans

*   [profile] gardener_cook  from the vegetable garden community informed me that Fava Bean leaves are edible.  This made my morning - since my fava beans are all leaves and no beans.  I'm going to have a fava green salad this evening to see how they are.  Here's a pic of my favas - and there is a bee there on one of the blooms.  Bees have moved in as well - I'm very happy about this.  Last year it bothered me that I had almost none.

Cyber appears fascinated by the awards!

We have lady bugs inside.

I'm sad to say i haven't seen a honey bee in years. I don't know if my children have ever seen a wild honey bee. There a the large bumble bees and hornets and yellow jackets but no bees. Someone must have them because there are lots of local honey producers.

I'm considering managing a hive or two just for the pollination benefit (not the honey). I'm a little leery of african bees infiltrating though which is why I've put it off. I have a little pasture in the back perfect for it.

The ladybugs obviously know a good garden when they see it! How are the aphids in the rest of the neighborhood? Maybe they are just sheltering with you but eating somewhere else. ?

Let me know what the fava bean leaves taste like. I'm curious.

They don't taste so great, but I would add them to mixed greens. I'm going to try stir-frying them this weekend. I've been trying to find the nutritional info on them - no luck so far.
