I heard this on NPR, and I was like "WTF!"

Now, I can see getting a little annoyed if the Teddy was named after their prophet.  I can see some Christians get feisty over someone from another religion naming a Teddy Jesus - but damn! - arrest and jail...... I even heard a few reportings of people calling for her death.

I stretch myself to accept and try and understand cultures alien to mine - I really do.
This is just beyond what I can write off as "well, they do have a different paradigm.....".

That's all I'm sayin'.

That story pretty much exploded my brain too.

Sorry, these folks are insane, period.

The US, a major Saudi ally, declined to comment specifically on the sentence, but did call the case "astonishing".

The last line in this story...

Wow, now that just takes my breath away. I had no respect for the Saudi's laws before - now I have even less (if that's possible).

Organized religion, this is what you get. If this happened in the U.S; some teacher named a Teddy Bear Jesus there would be a lot of noise too; at least the government wouldn't be involved.
