At 7am this morning (before Marcel even left to go down south) - the post office called announcing the arrival of the new flock.
I kissed Marcel goodbye - jumped into my jeans - and headed to pick up my package of peeps!

I ordered 25 but there were only 24 in the box.  Also, one came with an injured leg which means I have to put him down or give him his own little apartment so he can heal without being pecked to death my his siblings.

Are they the same breed as the chickens you have now?

How are the chickens reacting to the new arrivals?

My current flock are Delawares. The new chicks are Rhode Island Reds. I wanted Delawares, but the hatchery wouldn't have any available until spring.

The babies and big chickens are separated. There won't be any mingling until the babies are grown to full size. Then they will need to establish a new pecking order for themselves. :-)

I ad a cat who was very maternal, but I don't think I could have trusted her with chickens! Cyber is a very special cat.
