These are growing in quite a few places in my neighborhood.  I see them on my walk.  I'm wondering if they are edible - they sure look like grapes.  If they are, I am hoping someone can tell me the variety - I'd like to grow them on my property.

I am not sure looking at the picture but they look like the type my neighbor would grow in her yard. She would make jelly out of it.

Perhaps take a sample to the Co-op or a plant nursery and ask to make sure.

I've always been under the impression the wild grapes are sour, i don't know. If you go to the trouble of planting them, why not get a p[lant you know will produce good grapes? Just my thoughts.

These were sweet - I put one on my tongue :-)

Well, my thinking is - if they grow wild without any help - then they would do fabulously with care. The fact that they are growing wild means that they are meant to be grown in this climate.

I belong to the wine community here in LJ and they are always raving about how Texas wines are superb and that they are sadly overlooked in favor of california wine. So I say yes, they are meant to be grown here!

I say you cultivate and make some vino!

I've had some wild grapes growing in my woods, but they didn't taste very good.

Those sure are lovely, though.

We have wild grapes everywhere here on our ditch banks and covering the edges of the woods. The type here is edible, and look like that, but I dont know that the are the same. I've never eaten them but I know people do.
