LOVE
1.) I can garden all winter
2.) The "River"
3.) Half way between two big cities - best of both worlds
4.) Very little crime
5.) I can have chickens

HATE
1.) Summer Heat
2.) So many people with a different world view than mine
3.) Lack of Local Hawaii-Style food
4.) No college or community college conveniently nearby
5.) Have to pay $35 a year to use the library nearest me

ooo chickens, are they the sort with trousers, they make me laugh, in fact they all make me laugh

I hope the library is worth paying for, I find it taked me about two months to wear out the stock in a local library, for me they don't buy enough, so I'm building my own

Yes, they do a pretty good job. I'm moving to Corpus Christi in January - and I can use the library in Flour Bluff at no charge even though I'll be living on North Padre Island (so I guess the You Have To Pay is just a New Braunfels thing).

I always thought Texas was high crime; or do you just live in a good area?

I envy the year around gardening, but I don't know about that summer heat! It's hot enough in Minnesota right now.

The whole state isn't high crime. And I think crime rates are falling here.

Like any other major cities, the ones in Texas have as much crime as anywhere else. On average. Some more, some less.

Used to be a LOT worse than it is.

And yeah, she lives in a good area as well.

2.) Crack Seed (especially Rock Salt Plum)
3.) Saimin! (with the pink fishcake with the spiral design & Char Siu Pork!)
4.) Portuguese Sausage
5.) Kalua Pork (even if it's from the tub in the supermarket)

and having rice as an option for breakfast in a restaurant
oh,
and Mochi Crunch!!! (though you can get that here if you look for it)

That's terrible you have to pay for your library. Here ours is free (paid for by rates, so not really free, but a very good service). There are so many GOOD things about where you live. You would miss Hawaiian food, though. And not being surrounded by like-minded people would be uncomfortable, too. I know you will miss your current home when you move. But it will be nearer hubby!

The library near me is free to folks who live in the city limits only. I could use the Seguin library that is open to all Guadalupe county residents, but it's much further away.

I think it stinks - but that's the way it is. It isn't that way everywhere in Texas or the U.S. Just happens to be that way here.

Bah! :-)
