Pictures from the Past
Mar. 25th, 2010 11:29 pmMy niece Jerrica got hold of and scanned several pictures of my grandparents and some of me recently. I copied them to my Photobucket for posterity. I'm going to post the pictures of me (and one of my sis) first - later I'll put up some from the "old country".
These are of me when I was about 16 years old. They were taken at the stables (no longer there) at Schofield Army base in Hawaii. My horse's name was Ka Hekili au ka Makai (Hekili). He was a poi, but I always told people he was Morgan-Arabian because it sounded better than Mutt. :-) We competed in English/Western pleasure at 4-H shows, but really we just hung out together and had a good time. He was much more a pet than anything else. I am grateful to him for keeping me out of trouble in those sensitive years when it's easy to get caught up with the wrong crowd.

And this is my sister Zoe when she was a senior in high school I think. She is 4 years older than me.

Date: 2010-03-26 09:54 am (UTC)I love the second one especially where Hekili has his ears pricked.
I think it's wonderful you were able to hang out and competed with your horse during your young womanhood.
(From a horse lover).

I'm totally with you on horses keeping us out of trouble during our teenage years. There's no telling what I would have gotten into had I not had Pebbles to take care of. If I ever have kids, I hope to afford them the same opportunity if they show interest. Horses taught me more about life than anything else I know of!
Come to think about it, they STILL keep me out of trouble... and they STILL constantly teach me about life. <3

Date: 2010-03-26 02:55 pm (UTC)I considered getting a horse when I moved here, but I never could get the money together since it would take fence repair and shelter repair etc. etc. Maybe when I retire.... :-)
