I'm looking for another source for my online news.  Currently I go to cnn.com, but I'm getting increasingly annoyed with what they have to offer - and how they are offering it.  Anyone have any suggestions for online news content (please don't suggest Foxnews.com......)  Also if there are any funny sites out there (like walmartpeople.com and failblog.com - sometimes I need a distraction from work.

I'm in Overtime mode until further notice.  Except for Wednesdays (sacred time with husband) I'm going to volunteer for any and all overtime available.  Why? Because 1.) I need to make up for the 20 hours of pay I lost during the holidays and 2.) In order for me to be able to move down with Marcel - we're going to either sell or rent out my house as soon as we fix it up enough to make this happen.  I also want to pay off the loan my parents gave me for my daughter's car.   I worked 7.5 hours OT this week.  I'm working 8 hours on Sunday and 2.5 on Monday.  I'm going to keep working it until I get caught up on things.

Marcel is leaving for Germany on the 13th (which is the 1 year anniversary of our first contact on Eharmony (I sent HIM an icebreaker that day - if I'd have left it up to him, we very well might not have connected) :-)  Anyway, he's coming home on the 24th.  He hasn't been back to Germany in 20 years; I'm so excited for him - and I've demanded many megabytes of pictures.

I love CuteOverload.com - the hover texts alone are worth it.

Good luck with the OT! And bon voyage to Marcel.

The Cute Overload and I Can Haz Cheeseburger pictures keep me happy on most days. The BBC UK link is really really good. In Firefox I have a bookmark toolbar, and there is a "Latest Headlines" live feed there, comes with FF I guess - turns out all the stories are on the BBC site! Funny. The Guardian is also good. Seems like the sites in other countries are less biased, and more honest and comprehensive in their coverage. http://www.guardian.co.uk/

Was going to suggest the BBC as well.

How about: http://www.collegehumor.com/

Worth it just for this: http://www.collegehumor.com/video:1927354

I will check out BBC. I used to watch an Australian news channel when I lived in Japan (I was there when 9-11 happened) - I really liked their no nonsense news reporting without all the drama the American news put on things.

Collegehumor.com is blocked by my work (I've been there before though at home - it's hilarious!)

How about http://www.nytimes.com/ I go there very occasionally. I'm not sure how good it is. It looks a bit like http://www.abc.net.au/news/australia/ I used to like it but now I don't since they changed the layout a couple of year ago. I think other people's suggestions are pretty good.

Good luck with the OT. I hope you don't overdo it. But exciting times ahead! I hope you don't have to do too much to fix up your place. I guess that means Sierra finding a place on her own. I hope she's okay with that. She probably is, I think most young people like to be independent.

That's exciting that Marcel is going over to Germany. It sounds like it's high time he went back f he hasn't been over for 30 years. I hope he enjoys it, and I can understand your excitement at seeing all the photos. No doubt you would have liked to go over with him, but it's good to get caught up on things.

Stay well and snug and warm, won't you?

We need a new central heat/AC, lots of plumbing upgrades, and replacing the windows that are "fogged" (they work, but they aren't athestically (sp) pleasing), new carpet in the livingroom, and fresh paint / drywall repairs inside. If I get those done - it would be rentable / sellable. We're leaning towards renting it since we love it here - but we're wary of the hassles of being a landlord.

Reuters: http://www.reuters.com/

I skip right to the wire service - much of the other newspapers simply pick up wire copy. NYT and Washington Post do their own reporting as well - so they are worth reading.

Let me know if you'd like the link to progressive political blogs. I read a few of them too for analysis.

reuters.com sounds like something I might like. I'll give that a try. Just mostly looking for the facts you know? CNN.com has turned into a snark blog.

I'm in one of my "I'm sick of and tired of the news!" phases.

You've put so much into your house and property; are you going to be able to not make a clean break? Where in Germany is he going?

He's going to Lahr Germany (it's in southern Germany on the edge of the Black Forest - close to the border of France)

I doubt we'll sell the house - probably suffer through landlordship (at least for awhile). We both love the house, and we want to live there together one day. If I move to the coast, we'll more than likely live there for a while though - and we don't want to sell that house either.

I've enjoyed reading what others have been posting on twitter. Twitter is brief but they post links to other articles. They re-tweet other articles they find interesting on the web. Beside cnn, there is npr, nightline etc, they're all tweeting.
If you decide to use twitter let me know my 'handle' on there is 4czgirl.

I watch Nightly News on msnbc.com, then Keith Olberman and Rachel Maddow to counter the person in the next room watching Glen Beck. :P

Also get news from yahoo & google news, the daily beast, & bbc.
