The author of The Righteous Porkchop was talking about her book on the Diane Rehm radio show last week. I've put the book on my reading list. I am already very familiar with factory farms - it's a shame more people aren't. I think if they were they'd either cut down on their consumption of animal products or budget in organic humanely raised animal products.
Well we should all learn about them - not only are they cruel, polluting and disgusting - but they also receive lots or earmark money to keep them going. Some of the recent money received was to study the manure lagoons. That really is a toxic asset!
The book is really good - she gets a little long winded after she marries the rancher - it takes her a chapter or two to pull back to the theme and discuss the current state of things. Then she finally wraps up with the "what can the average person" do chapter.
Be sure to pick it up - just don't let the girls out back know about it!!!
