This-n-that
Feb. 20th, 2009 12:57 pmLately, if it weren't for my friends list, I'd get no news at all. I haven't turned on the TV in over a week - or gone to cnn.com. I'll try and do that today. On the positive end - my house is tidier and I'm in a better mood as a result. Still, one can't live with their head stuck in the sand (or in the clouds).
I had a setback at work this week. I was on a special servicing team that gave me extra pay. The company decided to do away with the team - and, naturally, I will no longer get the pay. It's a decent chunk of change considering my already tight budget. If it were just me - easy to adjust the budget - but Sierra is here now, so the expenses are higher. If she'd only get a job..... sigh. I have no doubt things will work out - none whatsoever.
My German decided that he will come to me again this week instead of me driving to the shore. I just hope it's not because he doesn't want me to have to make the long drive. I shouldn't have told him I hate driving (which I do). I'm going to treat him to Shabu Shabu - but I have to buy a portable burner. When I lived in Japan I had an electric shabu shabu pot, but it was on Japanese current, so I gave it to a friend when I moved. It's so much fun, I can't believe I haven't done it since I moved back to the states. Maybe I'll take pictures. I've been careful with the camera when I'm with Marcel because not everyone is fond of someone constantly taking pictures; I don't want to be rude you know?
I haven't replaced my tomato plants yet - I need to get cracking! This weekend I will have a few hours each day to devote to the garden and chickens. My girls' egg production is back up. I will need to start giving away eggs again. I considered scrambling the extras and feeding them back to the birds (a lot of people do this), but it just feels too much like cannibalism to me.
Sunday afternoon I'll be with my friend Bea out and about. Not sure what we're going to be up to - probably no good. We used to have so much fun in Japan spending money together; now that I'm poor - we have to find other ways to entertain ourselves :-)

Date: 2009-02-20 08:31 pm (UTC)Consider this: When I have extra eggs and can't even give them away... like now.. I scramble them up & put in an ice cube tray & freeze. Then I put the indivdual portions in a container in the big freezer for times I am without eggs. I am always so happy to have my own eggers for baking or even eating off season!!

I may freeze some. I didn't think eggs hold too well frozen, but I can give it a try. I enjoy giving them away though - and I always have enough for me. People really like free eggs (much more than free vegetables out of the garden...)

Date: 2009-02-21 10:29 pm (UTC)not corny, dearie, sounds like LUV to me..! I'm still that way with Jack. *blush blush*
I found the eggs to be maybe a tiny bit rubbery but very welcome when the girls stopped laying and perfect for baking. free eggs... yeah, people DO like that! I love spreading them around... I also have a few paying customers which is nice with the rising price of feed!

Date: 2009-02-21 06:37 am (UTC)Shabu shabu sounds almost like one of the versions of fondue they have at the melting pot...

The pay thing sucks. Sorry. Any job leads for Sierra?

Date: 2009-02-21 03:31 pm (UTC)I do the soup stock thing too - also when I have an overload on basil I mince it up and freeze it in water in ice cube trays.
No leads, but honestly I don't think she's trying hard enough - and I am not available to hold her hand since I work 11:30-9. I think she's seeing that it's getting important that she get off her boof because I had to cut her off from luxurys and am having to slash a lot of things out of our budget to make ends meet. It's hard to cut back when you're already on a tight budget - lol. It's humbling to go through these struggles now and then - builds character and makes me appreciate it even more when things are going well.
