Tonight - teaching Sierra to sew with a pattern (she already knows how to sew free-style)
We are using a black polyester for the main blouse with skull pattern poly for the waist and ties.
Wish me luck...................

That looks like fun - how are the sleeves? They can be fussy to set in just so, but the rest looks easy enough.

I learned to sew from my Mom too. I'm so glad she taught me too. I'm not super talented at it, but it has always kept me in simple work clothes - even when broke... which was most of my young working life!

They are raglan, so no setting needed.

We got through the cutting out stage, and then she gave up. I put it away - we'll pick it up again when she's ready.

Honestly, I didn't think she'd take well to the whole "follow a specific pattern thing" - but I wanted to be supportive :-)

I love to sew tho' have put my machine away lately... Maybe (with your inspiration.. you always provide that for me) I'll finish the cut-out robe for Jack sitting in a bag on the porch! Wow.. that could be under the tree for him.. he'd be very surprised as I cut it out about 3 years ago! =)

I am inspired to sew when I have a specific project that just has to be made (ie Halloween, Ren-Faire, or someone begs me to make something for them). In these situations I make the time. Truthfully though - I've got so much to occupy my time that sewing is not something I do often. Mostly because it tends to create a mess and occupys an entire room during the whole process (from one evening to a couple of months....haha).

Sew the robe and post a picture girlfriend!! :-)

I am identical in that.. I used to go crazy on kids clothes when they were little, Halloween costumes, some gifts, quilts.. haven't sewn for a VERY LONG time now.. haha which is why the inspiration to do so was refresing.

I DO want to finish the robe. Will post when (if?)I do.. just like I will post my today's project since I am so jazzed I did it.. finally.... to be up soon.

With the little bit of new energy I feel. I'm happy to do things I've wanted to for a long time! And not frittering away my juice on Christmas stuff... altho' I am doing a cookie-making marathon this week to add to some soaps for a very few.. like my post mistress who helps me so much and a neighobor.

I am EXTREMELY minimalistic this year for Christmas (I do less every year...).. no gifts going out really.. a few very *practical* things for my kids... not even doing cards. (I am SO bad) but I can't bring myself to do it. I'll make my contribution to my favorite charity and that will be in lieu of stupid gifts for family members who need nothing!

I remember my mom buying those patterns; the bumpy scissors and the brown tissue paper; she used to make me shirts. Make sure you show the results.
