Misc Stuff
Aug. 21st, 2008 11:18 am * McCain & Obama Revealed on CNN: The show didn't improve my opinion of McCain. I didn't like that he cheated on his handicapped wife - or that he lied about it. I don't like liars (especially if they're republicans). I remain positive about Obama, but the show didn't make him any MORE appealing in my eyes. He has his faults - I didn't like that he plays the politics game, but would he have been able to position himself where he is now if he didn't? He remains my candidate given the choices (I'd prefer Kucinich).
* I'm sticking with my morning walks. They are averaging 30-45 minutes. I listen to podcasts - sometimes Zencast sometimes the Diane Rehm Show. I'm also doing some of Inhale Yoga after that. I do the beginning warmup and then chores and come back for the very ending. I want to eventually do half of the show (the whole hour would be pushing it - because of morning chores).
* I found a Handyman on Craigslist who does random jobs. He came over yesterday to see what I have that needs to be done. Turns out he works at the same company I do. He's going to work with me on stuff. For example he will give me a list of supplies for jobs and will let me buy them (that way I can get 6 months no interest credit at Lowes or Home Depot) and he will charge me for his time. That will make it more affordable for me. Boy, it's a relief to get this ball rolling. The anxiety of having stuff needing to be done and trying to ignore it is exhausting. I can chip away one project at a time. First project - the siding on the left side of the house that gets all the wind/rain.

Date: 2008-08-21 08:03 pm (UTC)Good work on your walks! It's a hard habit to get into. I can never seem to wake up early enough in the morning... and if I do, there is always something else to do.
I've been meaning to ask you about your iPod... since my car radio died, I need something. But when I look at iPods, all the variations, generations, screens, options, etc. just overwhelm me... then I look at the price and give up. How does one sort through all of that?

Date: 2008-08-21 08:36 pm (UTC)I chose the Nano because I am not someone who's going to download movies and television shows or music videos. My content is primarily Podcasts (a few video podcasts). I could have done without video, but I wanted an LCD menu (shuffle doesn't have that).
If I had it to do all over again, I might have chosen the 8 gigabyte model as I usually stay pretty close to 4 gigabytes in content now, and I don't have a large music library on board (maybe 50 songs) even. I load up on podcasts though bigtime. I can easily live with my 4 gigabytes, and there is quite a difference between 4 and 8 pricewise ($50).
I didn't pay retail for mine (and neither should you). Check for online sales and check the Apple site for re-furbished models. I got mine from the Apple site for $99 plus shipping so $107.00

Date: 2008-08-21 10:27 pm (UTC)I see they have a 2 GB shuffle for $60. Do those work for podcasts? If it says it will hold 12 hours of music, does that mean 12 hours of podcasts, too? And are you allowed to pick what you want to listen to on a shuffle?
Thank you so much for the help!

Date: 2008-08-21 11:10 pm (UTC)I think you'd grow out of it really fast though. For $40 more it's way worth it to be able to see video, have 2 gigs more space, and have control over your content. Just my opinion :-)
doh!

Date: 2008-08-21 08:38 pm (UTC)oh yeah, well I get up an hour early so I can get in the exercise - and (and I'm not kidding here) I get out of bed and dress/put shoes on/leave the house before I actually wake up - otherwise I'd find a reason to blow it off :-)

Date: 2008-08-22 07:54 am (UTC)And that is so cool you have found a handyman, and that he will let you pay for the supplies! Yay for getting your house fixed!
