WASHINGTON (AP) - Barack Obama told House Democrats on Tuesday that as president he would order his attorney general to scour White House executive orders and expunge any that "trample on liberty," several lawmakers said.

Date: 2008-07-31 11:27 am (UTC)As for Obama, I have studied a tine little bit of history, and after WWI the German economy was in trouble and people were suffering. Hitler promised all sorts of stuff, like Obama, and, of course, people voted for him. But he couldn't deliver his promises of fixing the economy. Also, a part of Berlin was set on fire and it was blamed on somebody else, but it was really to bring in draconian laws that took away the citizen's liberty. These things are documented and proven now. I could have done a course on this very subject at uni this term, but chose to do oral, history instead.
You know the rest of the German story. I don't know, I just find what Obama is saying is too good to be true. It has been predicted that if he gets into office, he might not stay there for long, as the economy worsens.
Also, the people of Dresden were not hoodwinked and were outspoken, and it has come out that Dresden was fire bombed in the war because of that. That was a pity, because, of course, as you know, some of the world's finest china came from there.
What Ron Paul is doing and saying sounds good to me. He is in the Senate and is running for president, but gets no media coverage. I wonder why that is? Yes, I know he is Republican, and I am not a conservative, but he seems genuine. Also, Cindy Sheehan, whose son was killed in Iraq, I think (or Afghanistan) is now running. Yes, she might be acting out of grief, but she has more than the required number of signatures to run, and she is. Her son died some time ago, now. I think she questioned the then government on why there had to be a war, and is basically saying that the reasons for the war were fabricated (which is widespread mainstream news, now). I don't know what her platform for running is.
I would advise finding out about these people. I don't know, Obama and Clinton just don't seem to have a ring of truth about them, and I don't know of there is much that they could do to fix things. But then, I don't know of there is anybody who can fix things. I guess some might make it better than others.
Yes, your vote counts, and it is good to research things to make sure that you vote for the best possible outcome. But one vote amongst millions makes it very hard to make a difference, unless everyone educates themselves very well on these things.

Date: 2008-07-31 12:50 pm (UTC)I'm not sure it's fair to compare Obama to Hitler (at least not yet). Bush would be the fairer comparison (for cause). I'll be watching closely the coming months. It's a shame it's come to this - having to choose the candidate least likely to turn into Hitler :-(

Date: 2008-08-03 07:04 am (UTC)I'm not saying Obama will be like Hitler, just that things seem to be going down a similar path. And yes, Shrub has done all the things that make it look like that way.
Good luck with how you decide to go! I'm proud of you, caring, and taking the time to make the best choice. I do the same here, of course.
I am only an interested bystander, because it all effects what happens here - we are a global village these days.
