I guess each of us can only do our little bits, unless we have to be very rich! I like the idea of microfinance, a little can make a lot of difference there. And changing the bad things in any society to make things better.
I like the story of the pregnant lady who had just come out of her doctor's in England and saw a man snatch a bicycle off a 14 year old boy. She shouted, 'Give that back', and then two men came to help and the man dropped the bicycle and ran. The boy never thought he'd get his bicycle back and was, of course, shocked when it happened. The bravery of that woman was awesome!
Of course, don't run yourself ragged trying to help everybody and being eaten up by guilt! By just planting gardens you may unwittingly help somebody in the future.
