Random Update

*  I got impatient yesterday and opened up a Pomegranate. (Marcel gave me a disapproving look).  It wasn't ready.  The little seeds were formed and plump, but they were just now beginning to turn red.  I ate some, and they did taste pretty good - considerng.  Can't wait until October or November.

*  I will get an extra long holiday weekend.  I am switching my half day with a friend (I'll work her Sunday this weekend - she'll work my Saturday next), so I will be off Friday evening through Tuesday morning.  Yay!!!  I'm drivin' down to Corpus to hang with my honey.  Sierra will have her boy-toy with her at the house for the weekend, so (hopefully) the chickens will get fed and garden watered (crossing fingers).

*  I think I made a post once about a wine called Gruner Veltliner.  I found an article about it in an old culinary magazine and my interest was aroused (I'm so easy).  I did some online research and got even more excited (I said I was easy....).  I've never been a wine buff or even all that interested, but for some reason reading this article captured my attention.  Since I learned about it, every time I go to a wine section I've looked for it.  No luck until Sunday.  I found it at Whole Foods, and Marcel bought me a bottle.  We drank it with dinner (Mustard/Curry tofu w/ brown rice and wilted Dandelion green salad......).

* We are toying with the idea of renting out (or selling - but in this market doubtful) the New Braunfels house and me moving down South.  There is so much that would need to be considered before that happened - but the idea is there (and it's being toyed with....) :-)

Oh yeah - it rained last night (yay)

So it was you who stole the rain before it got here!

Love whole foods and it finally came here! But I found out people are boycotting it cause the ceo said only people like him (the rich) deserve health care. Haven't looked it up to see if it's true or not.

It is kind of true. He offers a high deductible plan to his employees, and he pays for it. Problem is that these plans basically suck unless you get a major illness. If you are like most people who get treatment here and there for things like bee stings, sprained ankles, etc. - it's gonna cost you.

I do not agree with his thoughts on health care - especially that it is not a right (I believe basic health care - and wellness/preventative care should be a right in our modern society). Here is a recap of his ideas on this issue:

(the title of the article alone put me off - easy to tell which camp this guy is in)

I still shop at Whole Foods when I'm in San Antonio because the employees need jobs - and boycotting the store would only hurt them (cut hours etc.)

Hey, did you know I am from Hawaii too? I was raised in Waialua. My parents and sister still live there. We also have the same taste in music (I saw your playlist on your profile). These are reasons I friended you. Glad you friended me back :-)

yay! I was waiting to hear you decided to do what was needed tio get you there! renting out your house could work! I hope you can work it out...

We had a little rain, too. Finally.. It was nice and more on the way??

Have a wonderful LONG weekend!

I do prefer other natural food stores to Whole Foods and have for awhile. But that wine is tempting from your review..!

Aaaw...that is so romantic - Marcel bought you the wine!

I'm not following your plans - renting out the New Braunfels house...yes...and you moving south - where to? And what will you do with your place - where you are partially self sufficient?

It would be great to hang out with your honey all the time, though :)

And enjoy your long weekend - almost like a mini-holiday!

It looks like the restaurant isn't going to sell as soon as we thought. We like being together, and I really don't like my job anyway - so, if I can make arrangements for the property - the only thing keeping us from being together is me getting a job with benefits down there (and I can work in the restaurant until I find one). If we rent out my house, then it will be there if/when we want it when we tie up our loose ends (however long that takes - months or years). We are going to keep the North Padre Island house either way. I like it down there - it's just that the yard is so small, and you can't have chickens etc.

I wish my parents would move into my house in New Braunfels - that would totally solve the situation 100% (but I can't force them - and I've been trying to get them out for the past 5 years.... they haven't made a single move in that direction, so it's obvious that isnt' going to happen).

That's a big step for you to move? You have put so much work into the homestead. I'm not trying to give you seconed thoughts; i guess i'm selfish; iv'e enjoyed your projects!

[identity profile] eats-veggies.livejournal.com 2009-08-29 01:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Wherever I move there will be projects - it will just be on a smaller scale at the Corpus house.

I think we're pretty sure we aren't going to try and sell the New Braunfels house. Mostly because we'd have to put a ton of money into making it sellable (is that a word?). More likely we'll rent it and have the option of returning someday.
