Looks like the weather will hold up.  Saturday evening's low is 49F and no rain is forcasted.

My pack is ready for the most part.  Just need to add some boiled eggs, veggie sticks, and a couple of pieces of fruit tomorrow morning.

I have the day pack and the night pack since I will be hiking Saturday day and Sunday day on trails away from the campsite - and I don't want all that weight to lug around on those trails.

The park is Huge - looks like it's divided into three sections.  I'm really excited!!

I figure I'll park the truck and leave the night pack - hike the center section which looks like a 6 mile loop  - then come back to the truck and pick up the nightpack and hike out to the campsite taking the scenic route (this is the right section of the park).

In the morning I'll pack up and hike out and drop off the night pack at the truck - drive over to the falls and park - and spend the morning there (there's hiking trails, but it's unclear how they are setup - I'll find out when I get on them I guess.

(because someone e-mailed me expressing concerns, and I do appreciate that - thank you for caring - I'll just add this to anyone else who might think I'm not being careful.....)
I'll have my cell phone with me, and Sierra knows exactly where I'll be (and so will my journal AFTER I come back safe & sound) - this isn't a dangerous trip; it's a well known state park with ranger stations and park monitors.  I'll be checking in at the ranger station - they'll have my registration, and I'll have their phone #.  It's really not like the outback or the wilderness of Big Bend (as much as I'd like it to be....) :-)

I'll be taking pictures!!
Woo Hoo!!! - can't wait!!

I should loan you a dog! No one would bother you, and they love to snuggle and help you stay warm at night. Great at hiking and snake-finding, too.

Nevertheless - have fun!!

Wish I was going too! Haven't been up there in quite a while...

I admire you going camping in winter. I am definitely a summer-time camping person.

Have a fun time, and I, too, look forward to pictures!

Omigosh, sounds like you're going alone. It's my turn to express concern, but only because in Georgia it seems like lone female hikers turn up dead quite a lot.

I'm sure you'll be fine though.

(eep!)

Beautiful photos! I would have been scared to hike through those woods at night too.
